The Energy of a "NO Decision" or Indecision

By Trish Briggs

The energetic impact from ‘NO decision’ (indecision) is completely different from saying “no.”

Have you ever been in a situation where you could choose to do or not do something, and you make ‘NO decision’? You just let the energy of the choice mixed with ‘NO decision’ hang in the wind…… until it disappears…. Eventually…. Hopefully… Maybe… Never?

Energetically, you’re not sure what happened, but you know something did.

Your brain tells you that nothing happened because you didn’t make a choice. You didn’t choose one way or the other.  (Remember your brain is the last one on board regarding energy.). But you can feel it (your heart is sensing what your brain is not aware of yet); something happened.  Since the decision point was not acknowledged and it was left flopping in the wind, it will be more difficult to get hold of energy shift you caused.

I know that I have done exactly this, more frequently in the past than now. I am more aware now. However, I still must be mindful to catch myself from falling into this physical habit of least resistance. Mostly, I would make ‘NO decision’ to avoid confrontation or even responsibility, in some cases. (Empathetic people avoid confrontation sometimes at the cost of themselves. I am first in line.)

Unfortunately, ‘NO decision’ doesn’t translate to NO impact.

I didn’t comprehend the personal damage I was creating for myself by ignoring decision points on the trajectory of my life. I thought I was avoiding feeling uncomfortable, not realizing that I was sometimes disempowering myself by giving away my freedom of choice. I was also changing the dynamics of the energy around me.

Let’s look at this from the perspective of decision points on a flow chart. An example of a flow chart that I am most familiar with is the one for CPR. There are several decision points on this flow chart. One decision is whether to give chest compressions or not. You gather information by taking the pulse. If there is no pulse, you give compressions. Then you move on to the next decision point. The flow chart basically lays out the whole process for you, when to move forward to next step or repeat a previous step (YES), and when to stop (NO).

There is a flow to your actions based on the data you collect. There is a flow to the energy.  By acknowledging a yes at the decision point, the energy keeps moving. When it was time to accept the no, the energy stops. It stops because the process is complete. In the case of CPR, heart compressions stop when the person’s heart starts beating on its own (positive pulse) or help arrives and takes over. In both cases you directed the flow of energy based on the decision, yes or no.

There is no point on the flow chart where we make ‘NO decision’.

When we choose to leave an important decision hanging in the wind without awareness or understanding the energy stops moving forward. It has no direction. There was no acknowledged YES for it to continue. At the same time, it is not a clean stop acknowledging a completion because there was no acknowledged NO.

In my third eye, it looks like of a swirling pool of energy that has nowhere to go because you have not given it direction. This is a form of energy stagnation, one with only internal movement, and no external movement that results in an action. (Normally our choice gives it the external movement/action.)

Some would argue that by making ‘NO decision’, a choice was made. I will agree that one was made through default. It was made from a disempowered stance, giving room for other energies or beings to take advantage and shift the energy. This results in a different unexpected energy shift around the person. Now, as my daughter would say, it is no longer your story! You left room for something else to write your story.

And it is important to note, there are moments when a ‘NO decision’ may benefit you or your community; but making it with awareness versus avoidance changed the flow of the energy.

Have a great week and have some fun, finetuning your decision-making skills!
