Moving Through the Threshold: The Summer Solstice and Chiron in Taurus

By Leila Briggs

Every year the Summer Solstice carries its own energy, but this year one place keeps finding its way into my thoughts: the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the Burren of County Clare, Ireland.

The Poulnabrone Dolmen in Ireland. An ancient stone portal tomb sitting upon moss with a misty fog all around it.

What is interesting is that the dolmen is not typically a site that comes to mind when people think of the Solstice. There are many more famous sacred sites associated with solar alignments and ancient ceremonies like Newgrange or Stonehenge. Yet for whatever reason, this ancient portal tomb has been lingering in my awareness for the last few days.

In 2009, my mom and I rented a car in Ireland with very few plans and a sense of adventure. We spent our time wandering through Southern Ireland, following curiosity and avoiding an itinerary.

Looking back, no trip since has provided quite the same combination of adventure, paranormal experiences, synchronicities, and stories. It remains one of my favorite adventures.

I remember standing before the Poulnabrone Dolmen in the pouring rain with my mom. I wasn't expecting much. It’s a tourist site. Yet standing before it felt surprisingly profound. The best way I can describe it is that it felt like a surprising symbol of my life at the time.

A threshold into the unknown... it felt like a place between life and death, beginnings and endings, the physical and the spiritual. There was a stillness to it despite the rain. The fog carried a sense that the structure had witnessed countless people standing where I stood, each carrying their own questions, fears, hopes, and transitions.

As I reflect on that memory this Solstice, I cannot help but notice how much of our current collective experience feels similar.

The Solstice itself marks a threshold. It is the longest day of light, a moment when illumination reaches its peak before the cycle begins to turn once again. This year, the Solstice arrives alongside Chiron's shift into Taurus and Father's Day. That combination feels meaningful, especially considering the themes that have surfaced repeatedly in our Grid Meetings over the past year.

Again and again, we have found ourselves discussing healing, our internal stories, and the masculine energies moving through both our personal lives and the collective.

Many people are questioning old structures. Some are letting go. Others are desperately trying to hold on. Everywhere I look, I see signs of transition.

Humanity feels like it is moving through a threshold.

America feels like it is moving through a threshold.

And so many I know are moving through personal thresholds unsure of what is on the other side waiting. Including myself.

While that can feel unsettling, thresholds have never been about comfort. They exist because something new is waiting on the other side.

A threshold does not invite us backward. It asks us to move forward.

That does not mean we know exactly where we are going. It simply means that growth often requires us to release our grip on what has been and trust what is becoming.

Perhaps that is one of the gifts of this Solstice. The longest day of light combined with Chiron shines upon what is ready to be seen. It illuminates what we have outgrown, what we are healing, and what is beginning to emerge.

As I think back to standing in the rain beside my mom before those ancient stones, I realize the memory has stayed with me not because of the structure itself, but because of what it represented. It reminded me that there are moments in life when we find ourselves standing between who we have been and who we are becoming.

And while thresholds rarely offer certainty, they do offer possibility.
