Flip and Look?

By Leila Briggs

Trigger Warning! In this blog I discuss poltergeist activity.

One night earlier in the year, I set the intention to do some deeper spiritual work as I slept and dreamt. I snuggled below my blankets and I easily fell asleep. I was dreaming in no time.

I have an awareness muscle that I have built over time to know when I am at my processing limit in my dreams. So most nights I wake myself up so I can journal, type or mentally catalogue dreams before continuing on in the dream world. It’s much easier to track this way. (Of course, bodily sleep and recovery comes first!)

On this particular night I hit my processing limit and woke myself up. I was laying on my side, facing my bedroom wall. I lay there for a few moments recalling my dreams as I slowly became aware of a warm weight against my back. At first I thought it was my cat curled up against me but as I focused on the weight, I realized the pressure didn’t make sense. The pressure was in the middle of my upper back. If it was my cat, I would feel the pressure against my side closest to the mattress.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I was attempting to calm myself before adrenaline took over my thought processing. I debated about my options… Did I really want to turn over and see something or someone next to me? It wouldn’t be the first time. Or do I just let it be and pretend I don’t feel it? Just let whatever it is lay there in MY bed! Both seem equally terrifying and annoying.

I decided I was going to flip to look…and perhaps punch it!

I snapped my eyes open with the intention to flip over when I suddenly felt the weight move and then ever so slowly five digits drifted lightly, upwards against my back before disappearing completely. A hand! I had felt someone else’s hand against my back! I flipped. Nothing.

Believe it or not, I fell back asleep after this incident and continued my dreamwork!
